California Governor Gavin Newsom is challenging President Trump's Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, by permitting 17,000 migrant commercial truck drivers to continue operating on American highways.
The state's Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has decided that migrants who lost their licenses due to Duffy's regulations can drive for an additional 60 days and retake the state driver's test to renew their licenses.
According to Breitbart, California's DMV recently announced a delay in the cancellation of licenses for these 17,000 migrants, setting the stage for another confrontation with federal authorities who are intent on removing illegal aliens unable to read English from the roads.
DMV Director Steve Gordon emphasized the importance of commercial drivers to the economy, stating, "Commercial drivers are an important part of our economy our supply chains dont move, and our communities dont stay connected without them."
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy criticized the state's decision, warning that federal funding of $160 million would be withdrawn if California fails to cancel the licenses by January 5. Duffy expressed his disapproval on X, writing, "California does NOT have an extension to keep breaking the law and putting Americans at risk on the roads."
In response, illegal aliens with Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDLs) have filed a lawsuit against the federal government in California, seeking to prevent the Trump administration from revoking their licenses. Duffy has already removed over 7,000 migrants from the nation's roads, but he noted that Governor Newsom's administration has issued 17,000 licenses to migrants.
California has emerged as the leading state for illegal aliens obtaining CDLs. A recent report revealed that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) apprehended 101 illegal alien truckers in California during Operation Highway Sentinel, with those arrested hailing from countries such as India, Mexico, Colombia, and others.
