Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has declared he will not seek a third term amid increasing scrutiny over a significant fraud scandal in the state.
According to The Hill, Walz emphasized his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Minnesotans over his political ambitions, stating, Every minute I spend defending my own political interests would be a minute I cant spend defending the people of Minnesota against the criminals who prey on our generosity and the cynics who prey on our differences.
He further elaborated on his decision, saying, So Ive decided to step out of the race and let others worry about the election while I focus on the work.
This unexpected decision represents a dramatic shift for Walz, who was recently considered a strong contender for national office. Just six months ago, he was selected as the 2024 vice presidential nominee and was seen as a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential race.
