In a recent development, President Donald Trump has expressed his disappointment with Democratic Texas Representative Henry Cuellar.
This comes after Cuellar announced his decision to seek reelection as a Democrat, despite receiving a pardon from Trump for himself and his wife, Imelda.
According to the Daily Caller, Trump voiced his disapproval on Truth Social, a social media platform. He criticized the Democrats under President Joe Biden's administration for their relentless pursuit of Cuellar and his family, which he described as politically motivated and aggressive.
"Can you imagine??? The Democrats, under the Crooked Joe Biden Administration, who always use extreme force and jail-time to destroy their political opponent, wanted to put Congressman Henry Cuellar, and his wife, Imelda, in PRISON, for 15 years, which I predicted these Radical Left Lunatics would do," Trump wrote. "And they never stopped wanting to fulfill this evil quest! The Dems mercilessly went after Henry with everything they had!"
Trump further accused the Democrats of continuing their vendetta against Cuellar and his family even after their defeat in the 2024 Presidential Election. He attributed their hostility to Cuellar's staunch advocacy for border security and his opposition to unchecked and unvetted immigration.
"When the Democrats overwhelmingly lost the 2024 Presidential Election, and power with it, they, regardless, did everything they could to keep going after the Cuellar family. The Dems were vicious, and all because Henry strongly wanted, correctly, BORDER SECURITY! He was against illegals pouring into our Country, totally unchecked and unvetted."
Trump expressed his conviction that pardoning Cuellar was the right decision, describing it as a potential lifeline for a family he believed was being tormented by "very sick and deranged people." He also asserted that his decision was rooted in fairness and principle.
However, Trump expressed dismay at Cuellar's decision to run for Congress again as a Democrat, despite the party's previous attempts to imprison him and his wife. "Such a lack of LOYALTY, something that Texas Voters, and Henrys daughters, will not like. Oh [sic] well, next time, no more Mr. Nice guy!" Trump concluded.
Despite the criticism, Cuellar maintains his stance as a conservative Democrat who is willing to work across party lines and supports Trump's success. "Im a conservative Democrat, and I work across the lines, and I want to see the president succeed. President Trump, and its good for the country, and I will work with anybody," Cuellar noted.
Trump announced on Wednesday that he had issued full pardons to Cuellar and his wife. The couple had been charged by the Biden administrations Justice Department over alleged bribery and were not scheduled to face trial until 2026. "Sleepy Joe went after the Congressman, and even the Congressmans wonderful wife, Imelda, simply for speaking the TRUTH," Trump wrote.
Federal prosecutors accused Cuellar and his wife of accepting approximately $600,000 from Azerbaijani officials and a Mexican financial institution between 2014 and 2021. In return, Cuellar allegedly used his congressional office to advance Azerbaijans interests, a claim the couple has repeatedly denied.
Cuellar, a self-proclaimed centrist, has frequently clashed with Democratic leadership over border policy. He has criticized former President Joe Bidens approach to immigration and has called out members of his party who opposed the deportation of an alleged MS-13 member earlier this year.
He has also supported several Republican-backed measures, including legislation targeting migrant crime and protecting womens sports. Cuellar broke ranks again in November when he backed a bipartisan plan to reopen the government to end its 2025 shutdown.
