Florida Governor Ron DeSantis recently appeared on Fox News with Jesse Watters, where he addressed the controversy surrounding Representative Ilhan Omar and what he described as Minnesota's "Somali racket."
During the discussion, DeSantis criticized the handling of immigration in the United States, particularly highlighting the case of Omar. "Obviously, hes [Tim Walz] got a lot of egg on his face. Its a big scandal," DeSantis remarked, referring to the Minnesota Governor's predicament.
DeSantis expressed his bewilderment at Omar's actions, stating, "But Ill tell you, Im watching the clip of Ilhan Omar. This is somebody that fled this terrible country, no rights. Then she comes to the United States and uses our freedoms to try to make us more like the country she fled." He questioned the logic behind such actions, asking, "How the hell does that make any sense?"
DeSantis further criticized past immigration policies, saying, "Why did we, over many decades as a government, obviously not me or current Trump administration, but what had to bring in so many people who really dont necessarily want to assimilate?"
According to Gateway Pundit, the controversy has been fueled by revelations of a massive fraud scheme involving members of the Somali community in Minnesota. The report indicates that 70 individuals were implicated in the theft of $250 million in COVID relief funds intended for feeding children. A significant portion of these funds was allegedly funneled overseas to Somalia, with 80% remaining unrecovered. The scandal has led to trials, with seven defendants charged and five found guilty of misappropriating over $40 million in taxpayer money. The FBI is also investigating an alleged attempt by a Somali woman to bribe a juror with $120,000 in cash.
DeSantis criticized the response to these allegations, suggesting that accusations of racism are being used to deflect accountability. "The race card is what theyre trying to do to evade accountability. Theyll say youre racist, theyll say youre, quote, Islamophobic if you question why some of these folks have no interest in assimilating into American society," he argued.
DeSantis believes that conservatives are no longer intimidated by such accusations, stating, "I think people on the Republican side, the conservative side, I think were beyond where they can just sling the race card out and people should be scared of that."
The situation has intensified scrutiny on Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, with accusations of a cover-up to protect a Somali immigrant fraud ring that allegedly embezzled over $1 billion in taxpayer funds. An investigative report by Ryan Thorpe and Chris Rufo suggests that some of these funds may have been used to support terrorist activities in Somalia.
This revelation has sparked outrage and calls for accountability, highlighting the ongoing debate over immigration and assimilation in the United States.
