Pollster Claims Democrats Orchestrated Shutdown To Undermine Trumps Economy

Pollster Matt Towery has accused Democrats of intentionally orchestrating the prolonged government shutdown to undermine President Donald Trump's economic achievements.

The House concluded the unprecedented shutdown on Wednesday night by passing a bipartisan spending bill with a 222209 vote, despite opposition from Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and the majority of Democrats.

According to the Daily Caller, Towery, during an appearance on "The Ingraham Angle," asserted that the Democrats initiated the shutdown with a distinct political agenda, aiming to weaken economic indicators and thereby diminish the administration's accomplishments.

"It was the Democrats that started this whole thing. They did it to hurt the Trump economy. Because as long as they could keep this shutdown going, they could hurt the economy. And so the economic numbers, when they come out, wont look as good," Towery explained to Laura Ingraham.

Towery dismissed the notion that the impasse was primarily about health-care subsidies, suggesting instead that it was part of a broader strategy to damage Trump's rapport with the electorate. "Theyll say, Oh, Donald Trumps not delivering on the economy. That was half of the reason they did this. It wasnt all just about health care," he remarked. He also criticized a Florida congressman for prolonging the shutdown, emphasizing the need to prioritize getting people back to work over political gamesmanship.

Towery further contended that Democrats have consistently misjudged public sentiment throughout the shutdown. He noted that many Americans are bewildered by the situation and its complexities. "The American people, and Im a pollster, I know, they dont understand the nuances of this. They cant figure out why they cant fly through the air. They dont care. They want this thing fixed and over," Towery stated.

He also pointed out that Republicans inadvertently harmed President Trump by engaging in this political maneuvering, while Democrats failed to inflict lasting damage, as he predicted a rebound in Trump's approval ratings once the shutdown concluded.

The 43-day shutdown had significant repercussions, leaving hundreds of thousands of federal employees without pay, jeopardizing food assistance for low-income Americans, and causing widespread disruptions in air travel. The Senate moved forward with the spending package on Monday night after Democrats spent seven weeks obstructing efforts to fund the government.

Ultimately, senators agreed to a deal that did not include their primary demanda guaranteed extension of Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, which Republicans had consistently opposed.
