A chilling case has emerged from North Carolina, where a man stands accused of the unthinkabletaking the lives of his own children.

Authorities apprehended Wellington Delano Dickens III, aged 38, after he allegedly dialed 911 to confess to the heinous act. The Johnston County Sheriffs Office (JCSO) reported that Dickens admitted to the dispatcher, "I killed my children," in a call that has since been made public.

As reported by the Daily Caller, the grim discovery unfolded when the remains of four children were found in the trunk of a vehicle at Dickens' Zebulon residence. The investigation revealed a timeline of tragedy: 6-year-old Leah Dickens was allegedly killed in May 2025, followed by 9-year-old Zoe Dickens in August, Wellington Dickens IV in late August or early September, and 18-year-old Sean Brasfield in September.

Brasfield, it is noted, was Dickens' stepson. The JCSO has charged Dickens with four counts of murder, and he is currently held without bond at the Johnston County Jail.

In the recorded 911 call, Dickens attempted to explain his actions, stating, "Its a lot to explain, but in a nutshell, its probably my fault Its bad It just started as me over-disciplining." He further elaborated, "I beat on them sometimes. They didnt want to eat. I didnt force them to eat. Ive told them it was a punishment not to eat. I did a bunch of different little things Im trying to just do the right thing." These disturbing admissions have left many questioning the circumstances that led to such a tragic outcome.

The JCSO has confirmed that the children ranged in age from 6 to 18 years old, with a 3-year-old son found unharmed at the home. Sheriff Steve Bizzell stated that investigators are still working to uncover a motive behind the alleged crimes. Dickens, who was widowed in 2024, had been the sole caretaker of the children, according to WRAL.

As the investigation continues, the community grapples with the enormity of the loss and the search for answers. The case underscores the critical importance of vigilance and intervention in situations where children may be at risk, reminding society of its duty to protect the most vulnerable among us.
