In a startling development from Illinois, the state's taxpayers find themselves unwittingly funding a sanctuary state scandal that has raised eyebrows nationwide.
An illegal immigrant, Radule Bojovic, hailing from Montenegro, has been serving as a sworn police officer, a position that comes with a hefty financial package. This revelation has sparked a wave of indignation, as Bojovic's salary, benefits, and pension package have cost the public over $205,000 this year alone.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, Bojovic was apprehended by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during Operation Midway Blitz on October 15. ICE officials have confirmed that Bojovic had been residing unlawfully in the United States for more than a decade, having overstayed his B-2 visitor visa, which expired on March 31, 2015.
Despite his illegal status and the legal prohibition against him possessing a firearm, Bojovic was sworn in as an officer with the Hanover Park Police Department, a suburb of Chicago. Records from the police department and pension board reveal that Bojovic was granted a starting salary of $78,955.70 and was approved by the
Hanover Park Pension Fund Board of Trustees in January 2025. However, the total financial burden on taxpayers in 2025 reached $205,707, encompassing salary, benefits, and taxes.
The situation has ignited a firestorm of criticism, as federal law clearly prohibits illegal aliens from owning or possessing firearms. Yet, under the sanctuary policies endorsed by Governor J.B. Pritzker, Bojovic not only carried a firearm but also enforced laws, despite being in violation of them. ICE Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin has condemned the situation, asserting that law enforcement should never be compromised by political agendas.
She criticized Governor Pritzker for allowing violent illegal aliens to terrorize communities in Illinois and even permitting them to serve as sworn police officers. McLaughlin emphasized that Bojovic had flouted U.S. laws and lived illegally in the country for a decade, questioning the judgment of any police department that would entrust badges and firearms to criminal illegal aliens.
This incident is not an isolated one, as Illinois authorities have previously disregarded federal law in their pursuit of sanctuary policies. ICE officials noted that this marks the second known instance in recent months where a local police department has hired an illegal alien and unlawfully issued a firearm for official duty. Such reckless practices not only jeopardize public safety but also compel taxpayers to subsidize illegal activities.
With Bojovic now in ICE custody, pressing questions linger about how he was permitted to don the uniform, receive a paycheck, and deplete taxpayer resources while contravening the very laws he was sworn to uphold. This case underscores the broader implications of sanctuary policies and their impact on law enforcement and public safety, raising concerns about the prioritization of political agendas over the rule of law.
