A woman from Lafayette, Indiana, aged 50, has been taken into custody following accusations of threatening President Donald Trump via social media, as stated by the Department of Justice.

Nathalie Rose Jones is alleged to have posted these threats on her Instagram account between August 2 and August 9. Furthermore, she participated in a protest in Washington, D.C., as reported by NewsNation, which interviewed her shortly before her arrest.

According to The Blaze, Jones purportedly expressed a desire to assassinate President Trump, claiming it was to "avenge all the lives lost during the COVID-19 pandemic." She reportedly held the mistaken belief that Trump had been ousted from office and that former Representative Liz Cheney had assumed the role of interim President.

One of her posts allegedly declared, "I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disemboweling him and cutting out his trachea with Liz Cheney and all The Affirmation present." These posts have since been removed.

Jones, who was previously a pharmacist until her license was suspended in January due to mental or physical disability, reportedly reiterated her threats during an interview with the Secret Service. In a conversation with NewsNation, she voiced her opposition to what she perceives as the militarization of Washington, D.C., and the authoritarian policies of the President.

Despite admitting to making the threats on Instagram, she later denied any intention to harm the president.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro emphasized the gravity of such threats, stating, "Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution." She further assured, "Make no mistake justice will be served."
