Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a prominent figure during President Donald Trump's tenure, has unveiled a strategic initiative aimed at bolstering immigration enforcement within the state.
In an exclusive conversation with Fox News Digital, Sanders disclosed her plan to deploy several National Guard units to assist in the deportation of illegal immigrants apprehended in Arkansas. This move underscores her commitment to addressing illegal immigration, a key issue for conservatives who prioritize law and order.
Sanders, who previously served as the White House press secretary under President Trump, will collaborate with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under the auspices of federal Title 32 powers. This arrangement allows the guardsmen to remain under her jurisdiction while receiving federal funding.
"Violent, criminal illegal immigrants have no place in Arkansas," Sanders asserted. She emphasized her dedication to holding these individuals accountable through the Defense Against Criminal Illegals Act, which she signed into law. This legislation imposes stricter penalties on illegal immigrants who commit additional offenses within the state.
As reported by Fox News, Sanders praised President Trump's efforts to secure the border and improve safety in urban areas, often in opposition to Democratic leaders. "Arkansas stands with him every step of the way," she affirmed.
The Arkansas National Guard, led by Brigadier General Chad Bridges, is prepared to support DHS in this mission. Bridges stated that the guardsmen are committed to focusing on their core operations, with 40 personnel from Fort Smith, Little Rock, and Fayetteville set to be activated.
The guardsmen will provide logistical support and transportation for detainees, remaining unarmed throughout the operation. Their involvement will also extend to clerical tasks related to the detainment and deportation process, thereby allowing federal agents to concentrate on capturing illegal immigrant criminals.
This initiative aligns with Sanders' broader efforts to enhance state-level immigration enforcement, including expanding the ban on sanctuary cities to encompass rural areas not governed by municipalities.
Sanders' office has highlighted several cases involving violent illegal immigrants arrested in Arkansas, underscoring the need for stringent enforcement measures. Among these cases is the arrest of Luis Danielle Valdez-Reyes, accused of assaulting a state trooper, and Elias Avila-Bustillo, wanted by El Salvador for gang-related activities.
Additionally, the tragic death of Jennifer Ann Morton, a nurse from Little Rock, in a DUI crash allegedly caused by illegal immigrant Maynor Yair Sorto-Herrera, further illustrates the potential dangers posed by criminal illegal immigrants.
Governor Sanders has been vocal in her criticism of the Biden administration's handling of border security. She is among a select group of governors who have visited the Mexican border to draw attention to what they perceive as the administration's reluctance to address the issue.
