Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has come under fire from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, who accuse him of safeguarding criminal illegal immigrants implicated in serious crimes such as kidnapping, rape, and gang membership.
According to Breitbart, ICE officials on Monday unveiled a list of criminal illegal immigrants across Illinois, a sanctuary state, who have been protected from arrest and deportation. In some instances, these individuals have been released back into the community.
The list includes individuals such as Gabriel J Valle Galvez, a 47-year-old criminal illegal immigrant from Mexico, who has been identified as a Latin King gang member with a criminal record that includes battery, aggravated assault, and multiple assaults, among other offenses. Despite ICE lodging arrest detainers twelve separate times, Cook County Jail did not honor these requests and released him.
The list also includes Javier Carmelo Casillas Gomez, a 46-year-old criminal illegal immigrant from Mexico with convictions for procuring prostitution, domestic violence/assault, and drug possession. Despite ICE lodging an arrest detainer, Cook County Jail released him. Victor Manuel Gomez-Atilano, a 45-year-old criminal illegal immigrant from Mexico with prior deportations and convictions for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, was also released despite an ICE arrest detainer lodged with the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The list further includes Ricardo Salas Muro, a 41-year-old criminal illegal immigrant from Mexico with convictions for burglary and drug possession, who was released multiple times despite ICE detainers lodged by ICE Chicago. Dany Daniel Hernandez Colina, a 27-year-old criminal illegal immigrant from Venezuela and Tren de Aragua gang member with repeat arrests for burglary and shoplifting, was released after Cook County Jail failed to honor the ICE detainer, despite an immigration judge issuing an order of removal for Colina in 2024.
In response to the list of illegal immigrants protected by Illinoiss sanctuary state policy, ICE announced Operation Midway Blitz. This operation will concentrate on arresting illegal immigrants who have exploited such sanctuary policies to evade federal agents.
The operation is named in honor of 20-year-old Katie Abraham of Illinois, who was killed in a drunk driving crash allegedly caused by illegal immigrant Julio Cucul-Bol of Guatemala. Abrahams friend Chloe Polzin was also killed in the crash.
The Department of Homeland Securitys Tricia McLaughlin stated, This operation will target the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens in Chicago. She went on to criticize Governor Pritzker and his fellow sanctuary politicians for releasing Tren de Aragua gang members, rapists, kidnappers, and drug traffickers on Chicagos streets.
McLaughlin argued that these actions put American lives at risk and made Chicago a magnet for criminals. She concluded with a clear message from President Trump and Secretary Noem: No city is a safe haven for criminal illegal aliens. If you come to our country illegally and break our laws, we will hunt you down, arrest you, deport you, and you will never return.
This situation underscores the ongoing debate over sanctuary policies and their potential impact on public safety. Critics argue that these policies protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding citizens, while supporters maintain that they foster trust between immigrant communities and law enforcement.
As this debate continues, the actions of Governor Pritzker and the resulting Operation Midway Blitz serve as a stark reminder of the real-world implications of these policies.
