The political landscape in New York may soon witness the emergence of a new contender from a storied lineage.
Jack Schlossberg, grandson of President John F. Kennedy, is contemplating a bid for the congressional seat soon to be vacated by Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY). At 32, Schlossberg has expressed to The New York Times that pursuing Nadler's seat is "certainly a possibility."
As reported by Breitbart, Nadler's decision to retire after a lengthy tenure of three decades in Congress signals a pivotal moment for the Democratic Party. Nadler cited the repercussions of Joe Biden's presidency as a catalyst for a generational shift within the party.
The vacancy will spark a rare Democratic primary contest in Manhattan, a district that spans from Union Square through Central Park, encompassing major corporate headquarters, cultural landmarks, and some of the nation's wealthiest neighborhoods. Although Nadler acknowledged the potential candidacy of numerous allies, he clarified that he would not play a direct role in selecting his successor.
In the wake of Nadler's announcement, Schlossberg expressed gratitude for the congressman's years of public service. "Thank you Rep Nadler for your years of service and leadership to our country and NYC heres to the legacy you leave and all the work ahead us !!" Schlossberg conveyed in an Instagram post.
Speculation initially swirled around the possibility of Chelsea Clinton entering the race for Nadler's seat. However, her team swiftly dispelled these rumors, officially denying any such intentions.
Schlossberg, despite his political aspirations, has garnered attention for his controversial interactions with actress Cheryl Hines, wife of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is Schlossberg's cousin once removed. In March, Schlossberg made headlines by requesting a "favor" from Hines in an Instagram post, urging her to apologize to the family of a child who succumbed to measles.
"I need you to call up the family of the child who died of measles, and say sorry," he stated, referencing a tragic case involving a 6-year-old unvaccinated girl in Texas.
Further fueling the controversy, Schlossberg took to Twitter in July to comment on Hines' appearance, suggesting she looked "super dehydrated." He also reposted an anniversary message from RFK Jr. to Hines with the provocative caption, "What does she let you do on your bday?"
Hines, in response, has chosen to disregard Schlossberg's antics. She told the Wall Street Journal, "[Schlossbergs] behaviorI dont even want to say anything, because anything I say, hes going to think, hes going to be excited that someones talking about him."
