In the small border town of Eagle Pass, Texas, a significant decrease in the number of illegal alien deaths has been observed, according to a spokesperson for the Consul General of Mexico.
The spokesperson reported that since January, only five deaths have been recorded, a stark contrast to the nearly daily fatalities witnessed during President Joe Biden's border crisis.
As reported by La Rancherita del Aire, Vivian Jurez, the spokesperson for the Consulate of Mexicos office in Eagle Pass, revealed that the five deaths included one set of human remains that were only bones.
The majority of these deaths are believed to be due to heat-related dehydration. Jurez attributes this reduction in deaths to the stricter border control measures implemented by President Donald Trump in January.
According to Breitbart Texas, the Del Rio Sector, which includes Eagle Pass, experienced an average of one illegal alien death per day in July 2023, when border crossings were at their peak. A particularly tragic day in September 2022 saw nine illegal aliens drown while attempting to cross the Rio Grande.
The decrease in deaths is a significant departure from the daily norm in a city where thousands of illegal aliens entered the United States daily. Today, however, President Trumps stringent immigration enforcement measures have reduced crossings to a mere trickle.
The reduction in illegal alien deaths mirrors the drastic decrease in illegal border crossings in the area. According to reports from Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Border Patrol apprehensions have dropped from nearly 5,000 per day in December 2023 to less than 15 on most days in July 2025.
A CBP spokesperson told Breitbart Texas that the July statistics best demonstrated this correlation, noting a 90 percent reduction in illegal alien apprehensions compared to the average month under the Biden administration.

During President Bidens term, the high number of illegal alien deaths in Eagle Pass overwhelmed the local community's capacity to handle storage and burials. In 2022, the funeral director tasked with performing the pauper burials for unidentified illegal aliens who died while crossing became unable to cope with the increasing death rate.
Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber had to resort to a temporary morgue to house the bodies of those illegal aliens who died while crossing until the funeral home could accommodate them. For over two years, the refrigerated trailer served as overflow storage for deceased migrants.
In June, a solemn burial ceremony attended by local officials was held to inter the last of the remains in pauper graves in the Maverick County Cemetery.
In 2022, the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) documented 686 deaths and disappearances at the U.S.-Mexico border. The total deaths due to illegal border crossings led the organization to name the United States southwest border with Mexico as the deadliest land border route in the world.
