Devon Walker, a former member of the "Saturday Night Live" cast, recently took to Instagram to announce his departure from the iconic NBC sketch comedy show.
In his farewell message, Walker described the environment at "SNL" as occasionally "toxic as hell," reflecting on his time there with a mix of fondness and criticism.
Walker, who joined "SNL" in 2022 and was promoted to the main cast in 2024, shared his thoughts in a post captioned, "me and baby broke up," accompanied by a backstage photo. In a subsequent image, he included a note titled, "waitdid he quit or did he get fired," where he mused on the transient nature of jobs in the entertainment industry.
"To me, jobs in this industry feel like a bunch of little marriages," Walker wrote. "Some of 'em last for a long time if were lucky, but most of them are fleeting. Permanent until theyre not. Thats the deal. You know what it iswhen you sign up."
According to Fox News, Walker elaborated on his experience, acknowledging both the positive and negative aspects of his tenure. "Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell. Butwe made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction. We made a f---ed up lil family," he expressed.
Walker also hinted at future aspirations, mentioning plans to travel to Japan and a desire to work in a prestige drama alongside Julianne Moore.
The announcement of Walker's exit is part of a broader shake-up at "SNL" as the show approaches its 51st season. Emil Wakim, who joined the cast just a year ago, also revealed his departure on Instagram, describing it as a "gut punch."
Additionally, Michael Longfellow, who started with Walker in 2022, confirmed his exit after reports surfaced about his departure. Heidi Gardner, a veteran of the current cast, is reportedly leaving after eight seasons.
These changes follow comments from series creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels, who indicated a desire to "shake things up" amid "pressure to reinvent this season."
While Michaels has yet to disclose the full extent of the cast changes, he has confirmed that James Austin Johnson, known for his portrayal of President Donald Trump, will remain with the show. As "SNL" navigates these transitions, the focus remains on maintaining its legacy while adapting to new creative challenges.
