In Philadelphia, protestors were livid when they discovered that beloved Republican Governor DeSantis was in their blue state to receive an outstanding award.
The first person to receive this award from The Union League was President Abraham Lincoln in 1863.
The Western Journal states, According to the Union League Heritage Center, the medal is to be conferred on men who were regarded as well deserving of their country. We think that suits DeSantis perfectly, but the left disagrees.
For example, The Philadelphia Tribune states that Melissa Robbins acts as though DeSantis is the enemy of black Americans. She pointed out that Governor DeSantis wants to clean the nation of black history. She says he wants to remove all black history from classrooms, too, and that we cant ignore the horrible things that happened to black Americans.
According to The Western Journal, she said, It is the same continued attempts to denigrate, criminalize and demonize black bodies daily. The ground on which we stand is saturated with the blood of our ancestors, and we will not stand aside as leaders of the Union League, DeSantis, and his supporters point black people towards subjugation.
Protestors then tried to use DeSantis rejecting an AP course on black history to attack him as well. Reverand Alyn Waller claims its wrong to honor someone that says an AP course on black history has no educational value in a city that is 44% black.
However, DeSantis said that the course was being used as a shoehorn to get in other agendas and that it has a political agenda. He further stated that the course is not within Florida Law.
The Florida Department of Education also had an issue with the course. The department didnt approve of the parts of the course that dealt with seeking reparations for slavery. In Florida, Critical Race Theory is banned.
However, that doesnt mean that DeSantis is against teaching black history. He stated that he believes history should be the facts, which includes black history. He further points out that history should not be separated. Then, he says that teaching high school children to abolish prisons is not okay. Thats not a fact.
DeSantis isnt wrong. They're clearly working their leftist agenda into the curriculum if theyre teaching high schoolers about getting rid of the prison system. Protestors dont see it that way, though. According to them, DeSantis is against black people, and its that simple.
