First Lady Melania Trump has reportedly issued a stern warning to Hunter Biden, son of former Vice President Joe Biden, for allegedly making "false, defamatory, disparaging, and inflammatory statements" about her.
The First Lady's legal team has demanded that Biden retract his statements and issue an apology, or face potential legal consequences.
According to Breitbart, a letter from Melania Trump's attorney, Alejandro Brito, was sent to Hunter Biden's legal representative, Abbe Lowell, on August 6. The contentious remarks about the First Lady were allegedly made by Biden during an interview on Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan, which was later posted on YouTube. In the interview, Biden claimed that convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein introduced Melania Trump to her future husband, Donald Trump.
Brito's letter to Lowell demanded, "Immediately retract the false, defamatory, disparaging and inflammatory statements made about Mrs. Trump." The attorney warned that failure to comply would leave the First Lady with no option but to "pursue any legal rights and remedies available to her to recover the overwhelming financial and reputational harm that you have caused her to suffer."
Brito emphasized that Biden's alleged defamatory statements were reposted by multiple media outlets, causing significant damage to Melania Trump's reputation. "These false, disparaging, defamatory, and inflammatory statements are extremely salacious and have been widely disseminated throughout various digital mediums," Brito wrote.
He added that the video containing these statements has been republished by various media outlets, journalists, and political commentators, reaching tens of millions of people worldwide.
Brito pointed out that the source of Biden's allegations was Michael Wolff, a writer he referred to as a "serial fabulist." Wolff's claims were published by The Daily Beast in an article titled 'Melania Trump very involved in Epstein Scandal: Author.' Brito noted that The Daily Beast had issued an apology to Melania Trump and retracted the false statements contained in the article by deleting it in its entirety.
Despite this, Brito accused Biden of maliciously republishing Wolff's defamatory statements about the First Lady. He argued that the timing of the video's publication underscored the malice behind the decision to publish it, given the clear falsity of the statements. Brito also suggested that Biden's decision to publish these false statements was a calculated move to draw attention to himself.
In addition to demanding a full retraction and apology from Biden, Brito gave him until August 7 to comply. A source informed Fox News that Biden did not meet this deadline. The source also claimed that Biden "leaked the letter" from Brito to "a friendly reporter," which they interpreted as a sign of deep concern about Biden's potential liability for spreading defamatory lies.
The Daily Beast was not the only entity to issue a retraction for the statements about Melania Trump. Democrat strategist James Carville also retracted his comments and issued an apology on his Politics War Room podcast.
"We took a look at what they complained about, and we took down the video and edited out those comments from the episode. I also take back these statements and apologize," Carville said.
The unfolding legal drama between Melania Trump and Hunter Biden underscores the high stakes and intense scrutiny faced by public figures. It serves as a stark reminder of the potential legal consequences of spreading false and defamatory statements, particularly when they concern individuals in the public eye.
