Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass recently made an appearance on CNN, where she expressed her disapproval of President Donald Trump's decision to deploy military forces to address crime in Washington, D.C.

During her remarks, Bass asserted that crime rates in Los Angeles have decreased, a claim that has been met with skepticism given the frequent reports of celebrity home invasions and the unrest following ICE raids in the city.

According to Gateway Pundit, Bass stated, " you dont deploy the armed forces because of peoples feelings. That is just inappropriate. If the statistics say that crime is down, then why would you do that because people feel afraid? Now, I deal with that all the time and I try to address peoples feelings. I dont think you just shove statistics in folks, but you do do other things to make them feel safe. You dont use the military to help people feel better.

This perspective has drawn criticism from various quarters, including actress and filmmaker Justine Bateman, who took to Twitter to challenge Bass's assertions. Bateman, a resident of Los Angeles, tweeted, "@MayorOfLA, crime in LA is not down. Almost everyone I know has had their houses broken into in the last 2 years. The police tell us there arent enough @LAPD officers to attend to calls that arent life-threatening. You do not have control of this town."

Bateman's critique highlights a broader concern about the allocation of resources and priorities within the city. She urged Bass to focus on adequately funding the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), emphasizing the need for effective leadership in rebuilding efforts in areas like the Palisades and Altadena.

Bateman's call to action underscores a sentiment shared by many residents who feel that the city's leadership should prioritize the safety and well-being of its citizens over political posturing.

The ongoing debate raises questions about the effectiveness of current crime reduction strategies and the role of local government in ensuring public safety.

As crime remains a pressing issue for Los Angeles, the city's leadership faces mounting pressure to address these concerns head-on and demonstrate a commitment to tangible improvements in community safety and infrastructure.
