The Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton, has initiated an investigation into the activities of Texas Majority PAC (TMP), a left-leaning Political Action Committee (PAC) that is significantly funded by billionaire George Soros.
The probe is centered on the PAC's potential involvement in illicit financial coordination and bribery of Democratic legislators who recently absconded from Texas to disrupt a Republican redistricting plan.
According to a news release issued last Thursday, as reported by Western Journal, TMP was established by former staff members of Beto ORourke, an unsuccessful gubernatorial candidate. The PAC, with its extensive radical donor base, is primarily financed by Soros. The release further stated, "This extremist group is part of a growing network of far-left organizations attempting to subvert the will of Texas voters."
The news release also highlighted that TMP might have played a role in facilitating illegal fundraising and possibly bribing members of the Texas House. This development follows the departure of approximately 50 Democrats to Illinois under the protection of Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker, in an attempt to thwart a new map that could potentially grant Republicans an additional five seats in the House of Representatives.
Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn sought the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in locating the absconded legislators so they could be forcibly returned. In a letter to the FBI, Cornyn expressed his belief that the lawmakers could be implicated in bribery for soliciting and accepting donations to evade daily fines imposed on them. These funds are also being used to cover their food and lodging expenses while they remain in hiding.
Paxton echoed this sentiment in his announcement, stating, "If Texas lawmakers are bowing to the Soros Slush Fund rather than the will of the voters, Texans deserve to know. Getting financial payouts under the table to abandon your legislative duties is bribery." He further added that TMP's actions suggest it might be using its Soros-funded resources to violate the law and finance the unlawful abandonment of public office. "If thats the case as determined by this investigation, there will be a heavy price to pay," Paxton warned.
The Attorney General also announced an investigation into "Powered by People," a group associated with Beto ORourke, stating, "Any Democrat coward breaking the law by taking a Beto Bribe will be held accountable." Paxton emphasized that Texas cannot be bought and pledged to thoroughly review all documents and communications obtained during the investigation.
According to Influence Watch, Soros had invested at least $2.25 million into TMP by 2024, using personal funds and money from his "Democracy PAC II". The recent actions of Texas Democrats seem to have underestimated the determination of the state's conservative leadership.
Local lawmakers have voted to authorize arrest warrants, the FBI is on their trail, and GOP Gov. Greg Abbott is striving to oust State Rep. Gene Wu, Chairman of the House Democratic caucus, from office. These lawmakers risk losing their seats and are almost certain to face legal repercussions.
Soros, known for his involvement in numerous liberal operations across America, may not be able to rescue them this time. This could establish a much-needed precedent: Americans will no longer tolerate Soros dangerous ambition to undermine the very fabric of our nation and will retaliate more fiercely than ever before.
