New York AG James Slams DOJ For 'Weaponizing' Legal System With New Probe

In the wake of revelations about Department of Justice (DOJ) investigations into her prosecutions of President Donald Trump and the National Rifle Association (NRA), New York Attorney General Letitia James and her legal representative have condemned what they term the "weaponization of the justice system.

".

This is a charge often leveled by Trump and his supporters against James and others in legal cases brought against him.

According to The New York Times, Abbe Lowell, James' attorney, has labeled any investigation into James over her fraud case against Trump as a "blatant" example of the administration seeking revenge for actions taken against him. In this case, a judge agreed with James' allegations that Trump, as a President, had exaggerated his wealth for financial gain.

Lowell stated, "[It is] the most blatant and desperate example of this administration carrying out the president's political retribution campaign." He further criticized the administration for "weaponizing the Department of Justice to try to punish an elected official for doing her job," describing it as an attack on the rule of law and a dangerous escalation by the administration.

Lowell also issued a warning to federal prosecutors, stating that if they "carry out this improper tactic and are genuinely interested in the truth, we are ready and waiting with facts and the law."

Geoff Burgan, a spokesman for James, echoed this sentiment, asserting that her office stands "strongly behind our successful litigation against the Trump Organization and the National Rifle Association, and we will continue to stand up for New Yorkers' rights."

As reported by Newsmax, the acting U.S. attorney in Albany, John Scarcone III, has yet to comment on the matter. However, sources indicate that a grand jury investigation is currently underway in Albany.

This investigation is centered on whether the Democrat attorney general's office may have violated constitutional protections under the "color of law," a legal term referring to abuses of power by government officials. The investigators are examining whether James' lawsuits against Trump, his business empire, and the NRA deprived them of their legal rights.

The conservative perspective on this issue underscores the importance of limited government intervention and the protection of individual rights. Critics argue that the investigations into Trump and the NRA represent an overreach of power by the attorney general's office, potentially infringing upon the rights of the accused.

While the outcome of these investigations remains uncertain, the controversy surrounding them underscores the ongoing tension between the current administration and its conservative critics.
