The Trump administration has recently celebrated a significant achievement in its border security efforts, marking a continued period of record-low activity along the U.S.-Mexico border.
This success is attributed to the administration's stringent enforcement policies, which have effectively curtailed illegal immigration.
In a press release from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), it was revealed that for the third consecutive month, Border Patrol agents did not release any migrants into the interior of the United States in July. This development stands in stark contrast to the situation during the Biden administration, which saw tens of thousands of illegal migrants released each month.
According to the Daily Caller, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem expressed her satisfaction with the current state of affairs, stating, History made, again. The numbers dont lie this is the most secure the border has ever been. She further emphasized the administration's success by asserting, President Trump didnt just manage the crisis he obliterated it. No more excuses. No more releases. Weve put the cartels on defense and taken our border back.
The month of July witnessed a series of record-breaking statistics, as reported by DHS. The U.S.-Mexico border saw only 4,598 apprehensions, a record low figure that is significantly below the daily average of 5,110 apprehensions experienced during the Biden administration from February 2021 to December 2024.
Nationwide, border agents recorded a historic low of 24,630 encounters in July, reflecting a 2.4% decrease from the previous month and an almost 90% reduction from the monthly average under the Biden administration. Border Patrol agents achieved 6,177 apprehensions nationwide, surpassing the all-time record set the previous month.
Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks took to social media to highlight the agency's accomplishments, stating, Stats dont lie. Border Security IS National Security and we will continue to unapologetically enforce our nations laws. He also praised the number of drug busts conducted by his agency during July.
The dramatic decline in encounters has effectively ended the "catch and release" policy, which previously required overpopulated detention facilities to release illegal migrants to accommodate new arrivals.
In May, Border Patrol agents released no illegal migrants into the U.S., a trend that continued through June and July, showcasing the stability achieved at the southern border under the Trump administration.
For context, during the Biden administration, Border Patrol agents were compelled to release approximately 62,000 migrants in May 2024 and another 27,766 in June 2024, as reported by Customs and Border Protection.
The Trump administration has proudly referred to these milestones as the fastest improvement in American border security of all time. This achievement underscores the administration's commitment to securing the nation's borders and upholding the rule of law, reflecting a broader conservative emphasis on maintaining national sovereignty and ensuring public safety.
