In a recent appearance on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle," Dan Turrentine, a former Democrat strategist, expressed concerns about Kamala Harris's unwavering support for President Joe Biden during her book tour.
Turrentine warned that Harris's steadfast defense of Biden could potentially lead the Democratic Party to "rock bottom."
Harris, who announced her forthcoming book on Thursday, discussed her brief tenure as the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee with late-night host Stephen Colbert. The conversation sparked speculation from journalist Mark Halperin, who suggested that Biden's team might possess damaging information about Harris, should she decide to distance herself from the President.
According to the Daily Caller, Turrentine was asked about Halperin's theory and responded, "I would never say that my colleague is not right. I think Mark [Halperin] is one of the most wired in people. Hes absolutely right."
The backdrop to this discussion is Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race in July 2024, following a lackluster debate performance against President Donald Trump that raised questions about his mental acuity. Prominent Democrats, including California Rep. Nancy Pelosi and former President Barack Obama, reportedly urged Biden to step aside.
Harris accepted the nomination shortly after Biden's exit and has since been a vocal defender of his administration. When questioned on "The View" last October about whether she would have handled Biden's presidency differently, Harris replied that "not a thing" came to mind.
During her conversation with Colbert, Harris was asked why she didn't distance herself from Biden during her campaign. She indicated that her book would address this question, adding that she chose not to "pile on" the President at the time. Turrentine criticized this approach, stating, "So, again, if youre Kamala Harris, if you thought that you didnt want to pile on, then you should not have run. She cleared the field when Biden resigned that day because she so badly wanted to do this."
Turrentine further compared Harris's strategy to that of ideologically consistent candidates like Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump, who ran multiple times and maintained their core beliefs. He argued that Harris's attempt to lead by endorsing Biden's presidency could be detrimental, saying, "If shes going to attempt to lead us into the future by arguing that Joe Bidens presidency was good and we should continue it, man, I thought we hit rock bottom. Apparently, we would not have."
Harris's reluctance to critique Biden's presidency comes amid ongoing scrutiny of the President's son, Hunter Biden. In a July interview with "Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan," Hunter Biden criticized several Democrats who had turned against his father, including strategist James Carville, actor George Clooney, and the hosts of "Pod Save America."
