During a segment on CNN's "The Lead," Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) expressed her disapproval of host Jake Tapper's inquiries regarding President Donald Trump's allegations of insider trading against her.
The exchange unfolded as Tapper attempted to address the claims made by the President.
Tapper initiated the discussion by stating, "This afternoon, President Trump mentioned you, and he made an allegation about your investments. I want to roll that clip and then give you a chance to respond."
However, when technical difficulties prevented the clip from playing, Tapper proceeded to read the President's remarks, saying, "We seem to be having some let me just read what he said. Im sorry that we had some sort of technical issue. Nancy Pelosi became rich " According to Breitbart, Pelosi interjected, questioning the necessity of reading the statement and emphasizing her intent to discuss the 60th anniversary of Medicaid, the topic she had agreed to address.
Tapper persisted, explaining, "Yeah, but I wanted to give you a chance to respond. He accused you of insider trading. Whats your response to that?" Pelosi dismissed the accusation as "ridiculous," asserting her support for prohibiting congressional members from trading stocks.
She elaborated, "Not that I think anybody is doing anything wrong, if they are, they are prosecuted and they go to jail, but because of the confidence it instills in the American people, Dont worry about this." Pelosi clarified her detachment from investment activities, attributing them to her husband, and dismissed any connection to insider trading. She further remarked on the President's tendency to "project," urging the conversation to move forward.
The dialogue highlights the ongoing tensions between Pelosi and the President, as well as the broader debate surrounding financial transparency and ethics in Congress.
