Ohio gubernatorial hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy has vowed to reinstate law and order in the state's urban areas following a violent incident at the Cincinnati Jazz Festival.
The attack, which took place on Saturday, was captured in viral footage showing a man being brutally assaulted by multiple attackers, with a woman who attempted to assist him also being attacked.
Ramaswamy, in a conversation with Breitbart News, revealed that he spoke with the woman involved in the incident, identified as Holly. "I spoke to Holly earlier today (the woman tragically assaulted in Cincinnati this weekend)," he stated. "Shes a single working mom who went to a friends birthday party. Its unconscionable that there were no police present in that area of Cincinnati on a Saturday night, or even an ambulance to take her to the hospital."
According to Breitbart, Ramaswamy criticized left-leaning politicians for their handling of crime and their response to the assaults, emphasizing the need for safety in public spaces.
Ramaswamy expressed his discontent with the current state of affairs, stating, "Hard-working Americans shouldnt have to worry for their safety when they have a good time in our cities." He noted that Holly reported a lack of outreach from public officials, aside from a local police detective.
As governor, Ramaswamy pledged to eliminate lenient crime policies promoted by Democrats in Ohio's cities. "Leftists like to lecture about systemic injustice while thugs turn our cities into war zones. Im done with their excuses," he asserted. "As governor, Ill make sure theyre behind bars, not running wild. Our cops will have the green light to restore orderno apologies, no retreat."
The police have identified suspects in the case, though they remain at large. Holly, who is still recovering, hopes that the attention her case has received will deter future attacks. Ramaswamy conveyed her gratitude, saying, "Holly appreciates the kind words and prayers from patriots across the country, and hopes that the publicity around her story ensures that local and state leaders clean up our failing cities." He also mentioned plans to visit Holly during her recovery.
Ramaswamy, a Republican, has maintained a lead in the polls since he announced his candidacy for governor, reflecting a strong base of support for his tough-on-crime stance and commitment to restoring safety in Ohio's cities.
