President Donald Trump has expressed his growing dissatisfaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin's apparent lack of commitment to establishing peace with Ukraine.
Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Trump voiced his disappointment, stating, he'll talk so beautifully, then he'll bomb people at night.
In a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House on Monday, Trump announced a series of measures against the Russian Federation, should they persist in their aggressive actions. The president is planning to increase efforts to supply arms to Ukraine and has also threatened severe economic repercussions for Russia if they do not actively pursue peace.
Were going to be doing very severe tariffs if we dont have a deal in 50 days, Trump declared. Tariffs at about 100% youd call them secondary tariffs. You know what that means.
As reported by RedState, a White House official clarified that the president's reference to secondary tariffs meant imposing 100% tariffs on Russia and secondary sanctions on other countries that purchase Russian oil.
Regarding the weapons, the US could potentially sell short-range missiles, Howitzer rounds, and medium-range air-to-air missiles to NATO members, in addition to Patriot missile batteries, which Trump has identified as crucial to Ukraine's defenses. These weapons would then be transferred to Ukraine, according to a source familiar with the discussions.
Mark Levin, a Fox News host and radio stalwart, expressed his support for Trump's actions, praising the president's strategic approach to providing Ukraine with much-needed military equipment. Levin highlighted Trump's assertion that Putin is targeting civilians and destroying civilian infrastructure, despite his claims of willingness to negotiate.
Putin's unyielding ambition to conquer Ukraine, as part of his broader imperialist objectives, is evident. In response, President Trump is making concerted efforts to bring this war to a close.
Rutte also expressed his approval of the announcement, describing the deal as significant. He confirmed that the weapons would be funded by European nations, a decision he described as "totally logical". The value of the weapons amounts to billions of dollars.
During his meeting with Rutte, Trump announced his dwindling patience with Russia's negotiation tactics. He warned that if a peace deal with Ukraine is not reached within 50 days, he will impose secondary tariffs at 100%, which could have a crippling effect on Russia's economy. "If we do not have a deal in 50 days, they'll be at 100%....and that's the way it is. It could not be more simple."
Trump's irritation with Putin is escalating as the Russian leader shows no signs of relenting. Some US officials believe that supplying Ukraine with a surge in new weaponry could send a clear message to Moscow that Trump is serious about his frustrations with Putin.
Hes seriously frustrated with Putin, a US official stated. He wants to show hes serious about ending the war, and maybe this will show Putin its time to start negotiating.
Putin continues to defy the international community, making no substantial efforts to end the war he initiated in Ukraine. It remains to be seen whether a significant financial blow will prompt a change in his approach.
