In a recent episode of "Cuomo," NewsNation host Chris Cuomo took Democratic Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut to task for attributing the recent flash flood disaster in Texas to budget cuts made during President Donald Trump's administration.

Cuomo, who has been vocal about his attempts to invite Murphy onto his show, expressed his disapproval of the senator's remarks. During the broadcast, Cuomo read aloud Murphy's tweet, which stated, "Accurate weather forecasting helps avoid fatal disasters. There are consequences to Trumps brainless attacks on public workers, like meteorologists."

Cuomo's response was pointed and direct. "Thats what you say?" he questioned, his voice rising. "You really believe that thats what this was about? You really think thats what your constituents want? For you to take a cheap shot at dead kids to score points against Trump? Wow." According to the Western Journal, Cuomo emphasized the need for perspective, acknowledging that while criticism may be warranted, it should be balanced.

He highlighted that the National Weather Service union confirmed there was adequate staffing in Texas at the time of the floods, with warnings escalating nearly 12 hours before the disaster struck. "So shut up, Murphy," Cuomo concluded, underscoring the notion that the interests of the many are being held hostage by the obsessions of the few on both sides.

The politicization of such a tragic event is indicative of why Democrats continue to face electoral and symbolic setbacks. Cuomo, who is not typically aligned with conservative viewpoints, offers a unique critique, especially given his background with CNN and his brother's tenure as governor of New York. Murphy's refusal to comment when approached by Fox News suggests an awareness of having crossed a line.

Murphy is not alone in leveraging the floods for political gain. Texas Democratic Representative Joaquin Castro, speaking on CNN, attributed the disaster to climate change, stating, "I think climate change is obviously a part of it. These floods are happening more often in more parts of the country, and really all over the world, and so we have to face that reality and be better prepared for it and combat it."

Similarly, Washington state's Democratic Governor Jay Inslee linked the tragedy to climate change, criticizing President Trump for signing a bill that he claimed undermines solar and wind energy efforts vital in combating climate change.

The American public grows weary of the relentless fearmongering, denigration, and partisan attacks. It is high time for elected officials to focus on governance rather than maintaining an unhealthy fixation on President Trump. Such behavior is not only unbecoming but also an affront to the people they serve and the offices they hold.
