In a poignant display of faith and leadership, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner led a heartfelt prayer during a cabinet meeting with President Donald Trump, Vice President, and other cabinet members.
The prayer was dedicated to the victims of the devastating Texas floods, which have left a trail of destruction and sorrow. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared the moment on social media platform X, describing it as a "truly beautiful moment" before the press entered the room.
As reported by Western Journal, Turner, who has a background as a Baptist pastor and Texas state legislator, began his prayer with a humble acknowledgment of divine grace and mercy. "Father, were humbled by your grace, were humbled by your mercy. Lord God, we surrender to you. Jesus, you are the great redeemer," he prayed.
Turner expressed the collective bewilderment and grief over the tragedy, stating, "As we think about the families in Texas, Lord God, we dont understand. We dont know how to explain it. We dont know why, but we know who we know who to trust." He continued by invoking a "peace that surpasses all understanding" for the grieving families.
Turner, a former NFL player, highlighted the enduring peace offered by Jesus, contrasting it with the fleeting peace of the world. He also sought divine wisdom for the cabinet members, emphasizing the need for effective responses to the disaster that claimed over 100 lives. Citing scripture, he remarked, "The Bible says in Isaiah that we are the restorers of the breach and the repairers of the streets," while expressing gratitude for first responders and those actively working on the ground.
During the meeting, President Trump announced that he and First Lady Melania Trump would visit Texas on Friday, ensuring their presence would not hinder ongoing relief efforts. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem provided an update on the federal response, noting the involvement of the Coast Guard, Customs and Border agents, and resources from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. "Texas is strong and the people of Texas are incredibly strong," Noem affirmed.
In a testament to the bravery and dedication of first responders, a Coast Guardsman was credited with rescuing 165 children at Camp Mystic, an all-girls camp near Kerrville. Petty Officer Scott Ruskan recounted to ABC's "Good Morning America" the overwhelming scene he encountered: "When I got on scene, there were 200 kids looking to someone for some sort of comfort and safety." Despite the pressure, Ruskan rose to the occasion, embodying the professionalism and commitment expected of him.
As the nation watches the unfolding events in Texas, the administration's response underscores the importance of leadership grounded in faith, compassion, and decisive action. The prayers and efforts of those in power, coupled with the resilience of the Texan people, serve as a beacon of hope amid the tragedy.
