These included prohibiting face masks on campus, empowering some security officers to remove or arrest individuals, and relinquishing the faculty's control over the department offering courses on the Middle East.
In May, the Offices for Civil Rights for the Health and Human Services and Education departments found Columbia in violation of Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The university was accused of "acting with deliberate indifference" towards harassment of Jewish students, particularly in the wake of a terrorist attack by Hamas.
