Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem recently witnessed a deportation flight in Panama, where illegal aliens aiming to reach the U.S.-Mexico border were sent back to their countries of origin.
This visit to Panama City underscored the Trump administration's commitment to reinforcing an agreement with Panama, designed to intercept and deport illegal aliens before they can reach the United States.
According to Breitbart, the deportation flight included individuals convicted of serious offenses such as sex crimes, robbery, and drug trafficking. The Department of Homeland Security highlighted the success of this initiative, noting that "2,044 migrants without legal grounds to remain in Panama were deported to 23 countries between August 2024 and June 2025."
Noem emphasized the cost-effectiveness of these deportation flights from Panama, which are significantly cheaper than those originating from the U.S., thus conserving taxpayer dollars.
The Trump administration's stringent measures against illegal immigration have notably curtailed the flow of migrants through the perilous Darien Gap in Panama. This region, notorious for its dangers, has seen a dramatic reduction in illegal crossings.
By February, the number of illegal immigrants traversing the Darien Gap had decreased by 99 percent compared to the previous year under President Joe Biden's administration. Specifically, only 408 U.S.-bound illegal aliens navigated the Darien Gap in February, a stark contrast to the over 37,000 who did so in February 2024.
This development reflects a broader strategy of prioritizing border security and enforcing immigration laws, aligning with conservative values of safeguarding national sovereignty and reducing the fiscal burden on American citizens.
