Vivek Ramaswamy, a former Republican presidential candidate, has recently made a striking comparison between California Governor.
Gavin Newsom and Alabama segregationist George Wallace, a well-known Democrat governor.
Ramaswamy's comments were made during a discussion about the ongoing riots in Los Angeles on Fox News with host Jesse Watters.
Ramaswamy drew parallels between Newsom's actions and those of Wallace, who was a staunch segregationist and Jim Crow supporter. Wallace famously defied a federal court order in 1963 by standing in the doorway of the University of Alabama to prevent the enrollment of African American students. Ramaswamy sees Newsom as attempting to 'stand' between ICE officials and the criminal illegal aliens he considers allies.
Ramaswamy, who is also an Ohio gubernatorial candidate, warned that Newsom might not appreciate his remarks. He stated, "I know Gavin Newsom. I actually happen to like him as a person. The reality is hes not gonna like what I have to say on this, which is that his behavior is starting to resemble that of another Democratic governor from U.S. history by the name of George Wallace."
Ramaswamy further elaborated on his comparison, stating that Wallace "was the governor of Alabama, who famously stood in the way of federal desegregation, and in 1963, President John F. Kennedy had to deploy the National Guard of Alabama just like President Trump is doing today."
According to RedState, Newsom has been actively opposing the President on the National Guard issue, requesting a district court judge to issue an emergency temporary restraining order against the administration for deploying the National Guard and Marines to protect Angelinos from the rioters.
Ramaswamy continued his argument by stating, "Democrat governors. When you look at George Wallace, he resisted desegregation. Gavin Newsom is resisting deportations. George Wallace wanted segregated cities, Gavin Newsom wants sanctuary cities. George Wallace stood in the school door, blocking the way. Gavin Newsom is blocking the ICE vans."
Ramaswamy believes that Newsom's actions are less about principle and more about provoking Trump into taking action that could boost his presidential aspirations by becoming a martyr for the illegal cause. He also predicted that Newsom's presidential ambitions would end up like Wallace's, stating, And Jesse, you can mark my words on this one, Gavin Newsoms presidential ambitions are gonna end in the same place that George Wallaces did: in the dustbins of history where it belongs."
Newsom, who made what could be considered his first presidential campaign speech on Tuesday night, accused the President of "disappearing" people and pledged that the fight against law enforcement would not only continue but would also spread to other states.
This prediction was confirmed with violence erupting in Chicago, San Antonio, and New York City. Ramaswamy suggests that Newsom is intentionally trying to incite the rioters to create more chaos.
While Newsom's presidential aspirations may be destined for the dustbin of history, the impact of his legacy has already transformed California into what some might consider a dustbin.
