Democratic Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett recently engaged in a passionate discourse on race during a podcast episode on Tuesday.
The conversation culminated in her asserting that her adversaries would "throw [her] back in chains" if given the opportunity.
According to the Daily Caller, Crockett, who is currently in the race to become the next ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, pledged during her appearance on "Inside Texas Politics" that she would initiate an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump if she ascends to the chair position.
The conversation took a turn towards race when TS Madison, the host of "Outlaws," expressed her fears as a black trans woman in the current sociopolitical climate, prompting Crockett's fervent response.
Crockett responded with a powerful message of resilience and self-worth, stating, "I like to say they hate you because they cant be you. So every little hate that they spew your way, my way, it is because they know that they see how beautiful we are inside and out, and we walk in that greatness every single day." She continued, emphasizing the courage it takes to live authentically in the face of potential backlash.
Crockett also reflected on America's history of racism, drawing parallels between past struggles and the current climate. She stated, "And the idea that, you know, when people get all riled up about anybody, right, that is not old, white, male and rich anytime they get very riled up, I just think about and I wonder: what did the struggles look like back in the day?"
She further elaborated on the justifications used in the past to uphold discriminatory practices, citing the Bible and perceived differences as common excuses.
Despite the intensity of her discourse, Crockett concluded on a hopeful note, expressing her belief in the ability to overcome discrimination. She stated, "And so with me, I know that weve persevered past them. We have still been able to accomplish so much despite them." She also asserted her belief in the inherent greatness and normality of all people, regardless of their race or identity.
Crockett's candid discussions on race have played a significant role in her rise to prominence. If she is elected as the ranking member on June 24 and the Democrats secure a majority in the House following the 2026 midterm elections, she would assume the chair role on the Oversight Committee.
Her potential ascension to this position could have far-reaching implications for the future of American politics, particularly in the realm of racial justice and equality.
