Karine Jean-Pierre, the former White House press secretary, has announced her departure from the Democratic Party, citing a sense of betrayal that she believes led to ex-President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the 2024 election.
This revelation was made public through a statement from Legacy Lit, the publisher of her forthcoming book.
Jean-Pierre's upcoming book, titled "Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines," is slated for an October 2025 release, as reported by Legacy Lit. The book aims to inspire Americans to vote based on their personal values and to uphold their individuality within the confines of party politics.
The decision to identify as an Independent was not taken lightly by Jean-Pierre, who has served under two American presidents, namely Obama and Biden. "In 2020, she joined Bidens campaign as a senior adviser, becoming Harriss chief of staff and then, two years later, White House press secretary.
She takes us through the three weeks that led to Bidens abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision, the book description from Legacy Lit reveals.
Jean-Pierre took to social media on Wednesday to explain her decision to pen the book. "In an era of misinformation, disinformation, the regressiveness of social policy, what were seeing currently, right now, what I have decided to do, and I really have thought long and hard about this, is to follow my own compass. And thats what Ive done, and thats what this book does," she stated.
She further emphasized the need for political unity and respect for diverse communities. "I think we need to stop thinking in boxes and think outside of our boxes, and not be so partisan. And the way that I see moving forward in this space that were in right now is if you are willing to stand side by side with me, regardless of your political how you identify politically, and as long as you respect the community that I belong to and vulnerable communities that I respect, I will be there with you. I will be, I will move forward with you," she added.
During her tenure under the Biden administration, Jean-Pierre staunchly defended the former President's mental acuity amid growing concerns about his declining state. In the weeks leading up to Biden's withdrawal from the race, she dismissed videos depicting the former President appearing disoriented as "cheap fakes," alleging they were manipulated to portray the 82-year-old in a negative light.
Jean-Pierre also found herself in a credibility crisis when she consistently assured reporters that Biden would not pardon his son, Hunter Biden, only for the former president to eventually do the contrary.
When confronted by a reporter about the potential credibility issue following the pardon, Jean-Pierre defended her previous statements, saying, "First of all, one of the things that the President always believes is to be truthful to the American people. That is something that he always truly believes."
Jean-Pierre's departure from the Democratic Party and her forthcoming book underscore a growing disillusionment within the party's ranks. Her decision to become an Independent and her call for Americans to vote based on their values rather than party lines reflect a shift in political dynamics that could potentially reshape the future of American politics.
