The University of North Carolina Asheville has dismissed Dean of Students Megan Pugh following her admission of covertly promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
In a video released by Accuracy in Media, Pugh candidly stated, I mean we probably still do anyway but you gotta keep it quiet, and expressed her fondness for defying regulations, saying, I love breaking rules.
This revelation comes on the heels of the North Carolina System Board of Governors' decision to effectively prohibit contentious DEI practices, advocating instead for "institutional neutrality."
According to Breitbart, the video captures Pugh acknowledging the strategic dispersion of DEI efforts, partly due to the absence of a dedicated office, which she claims makes it "easier to maintain." She further remarked, Until more or less they get mad at us, but they havent done it yet, and confirmed the administration's tacit approval of ongoing DEI activities at the university.
In response to the video's release, a spokesperson for UNC Asheville stated that the institution is aware of a video in which an employee makes comments implying that the University does not comply with UNC System policies or legal requirements and supports employees disregarding such obligations.
The spokesperson emphasized that these remarks do not reflect the university's practices, asserting its commitment to adhering to UNC System policies and federal and state laws.
The university confirmed that Pugh is "no longer employed at the university" and announced plans for a thorough review to ensure all staff members comply with relevant laws and policies.
This incident underscores the ongoing debate over DEI initiatives in educational institutions, highlighting the tension between progressive agendas and conservative calls for neutrality and adherence to established guidelines.
