Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has sparked controversy with his recent remarks on hiring practices, asserting that he exclusively employs black individuals because they are "the most generous people on the planet.
".
During a weekend event, Johnson proudly highlighted the predominance of black individuals in influential roles within his administration.
Addressing critics, Johnson stated, "There are detractors that will push back on me and say, you know, the only thing that the mayor talks about is the hiring of black people. No, what Im saying is, when you hire our people, we always look out for everybody else. We are the most generous people on the planet."
He further elaborated on the cultural generosity he perceives, noting, "I dont know too many cultures that have play cousins. Thats how generous we are. We just make somebody a family member, right? This is how we are."
According to Gateway Pundit, Johnson's administration is characterized by a significant representation of black individuals in key positions, including the Deputy Mayor for Business and Economic Neighborhood Development, the Department of Planning and Development, and the Chief Operations Officer, among others.
This approach aligns with Johnson's continuation of the progressive policies initiated by his predecessor, Lori Lightfoot, particularly in areas concerning diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), as well as race-related issues.
Since assuming office in 2023, Johnson has maintained a focus on progressive initiatives, such as advocating for reparations and providing sanctuary to illegal immigrants. His policy proposals have included granting driver's licenses, free healthcare, education, voting rights, and even government-funded abortions to illegal immigrants.
These policies have drawn criticism, particularly during a House Oversight Committee hearing in March, where Johnson faced scrutiny for prioritizing illegal immigrants over American citizens.
Despite his progressive agenda, there are indications that Johnson's leadership is losing favor among Chicago residents. A poll conducted in February revealed that his approval rating had plummeted to single digits, with a staggering 80 percent of respondents expressing disapproval of his tenure.
This represents one of the lowest approval ratings in the city's history, suggesting growing dissatisfaction with Johnson's administration even in a traditionally liberal stronghold.
