Renowned actor Jon Voight has taken a bold step in advocating for the American film industry by proposing tariffs on certain Hollywood productions to President Donald Trump.
This initiative, which Voight shared on social media, has set in motion a series of developments leading to the implementation of these tariffs.
As reported by the Daily Caller, President Trump announced on Truth Social that he is directing the Department of Commerce and the United States Trade Representative to initiate a 100% tariff on American films produced abroad. This move is seen as an effort to rejuvenate the domestic film industry and bring back productions to American soil.
In a video released on Tuesday, Voight elaborated on his motivations for suggesting this course of action. "I recently met with our president, Donald J. Trump, who loves the entertainment business," Voight stated in his post titled "Plan to rescue Hollywood." He expressed Trump's desire to see Hollywood flourish and return to its former glory, emphasizing the need for productions to come back to the United States. Voight reminisced about the Hollywood he adored as a child and contributed to throughout his career.
Voight highlighted the adverse impact on American workers due to the outsourcing of film productions. "Our industry recently has suffered greatly, over these past few years, and many Americans have lost jobs to productions that have gone overseas. Its been very serious. People have lost their homes. Cant feed their families," he lamented.
The actor also mentioned his discussions with entertainment leaders and the recommendations he presented to President Trump. These include specific tax provisions aimed at supporting the industry, which could be extended, revived, or newly instituted. Voight believes these measures would benefit movie and television production, as well as theaters, which he considers vital to the American family experience.
Voight's unwavering support for President Trump and the proposed tariffs was evident in his statements. "Our president loves this nation and all the hard-working people in it," he affirmed. "Hes a great businessman, a leader, and a caring person that will always do the right thing for this country, the people, and our beloved entertainment industry."
A long-time ally of Trump and a prominent conservative figure in Hollywood, Voight has been appointed alongside actors Mel Gibson and Sylvester Stallone as special ambassadors to promote business opportunities in the entertainment sector. Voight expressed his pride in his friendship with President Trump, whom he regards as the greatest leader since Abraham Lincoln, even playfully acknowledging his friend Sylvester Stallone's admiration for George Washington.
The proposed tariffs and Voight's advocacy reflect a broader effort to prioritize American jobs and bolster the domestic film industry, aligning with conservative values of economic nationalism and support for traditional American industries.
