The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is set to unveil a new initiative aimed at facilitating the self-deportation of illegal immigrants from the United States.
This program will cover the cost of commercial flights for those choosing to leave voluntarily and will provide a $1,000 stipend upon their confirmed departure, as reported by Fox News.
According to The Post Millennial, the DHS anticipates significant savings for taxpayers through this initiative. The current expense of arresting, detaining, and deporting an individual averages over $17,000. In contrast, the new approach, which includes funding for self-removal flights and the stipend, is projected to cost just $4,500.
This strategy is expected to enhance safety for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and conserve their resources. Bill Melugin of Fox News highlights the department's assertion that this method will save taxpayers 70% of the current costs.
To qualify for this financial assistance, illegal immigrants must register via the CBP Home App and submit a formal notice of their intent to leave the United States. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem emphasized the benefits of this program in a statement to Fox, asserting, If you are here illegally, self-deportation is the best, safest and most cost-effective way to leave the United States to avoid arrest.
DHS is now offering illegal aliens financial travel assistance and a stipend to return to their home country through the CBP Home App. This is the safest option for our law enforcement, aliens and is a 70% savings for U.S. taxpayers. Download the CBP Home App TODAY and self-deport.
Secretary Noem has consistently issued stern warnings to illegal immigrants residing in the United States. Her commitment to enforcing immigration laws was further demonstrated during her visit to El Salvadors terrorism confinement center, CECOT. She stated, "President Trump and I have a clear message to criminal illegal aliens: LEAVE NOW. If you do not leave, we will hunt you down, arrest you, and you could end up in this El Salvadorian prison.
The DHS has reported that under President Trump's administration, over 158,000 illegal aliens have been apprehended in 2025 alone, including more than 600 members of the notorious Tren de Aragua gang. The focus remains on targeting criminal illegal aliens, with 75% of ICE arrests involving individuals with convictions or pending charges. This initiative underscores the administration's commitment to upholding immigration laws while prioritizing taxpayer savings and law enforcement safety.
