In a recent appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy delivered a robust defense of Trump's economic strategy, countering Maher's bleak portrayal of the economy with a more optimistic outlook.

As reported by Gateway Pundit, McCarthy's performance exceeded expectations, demonstrating his ability to articulate conservative viewpoints effectively.

Maher initiated the discussion by presenting a series of gloomy statistics about Trump's economy. However, McCarthy swiftly countered, highlighting the positive aspects of Trump's economic strategy. In response to Maher's assertion that the S&P 500 was down 7% and the economy had shrunk for the first time in three years, McCarthy pointed out, "This is a stock market up for the first time in nine straight days. Thats only happened eight times in the last 25 years." He further noted that such a consistent rise had only occurred 31 times in 97 years.

McCarthy also emphasized the temporary nature of the tariffs, stating, "We know the tariffs are a negotiation. Its not going to stay this way." He expressed optimism about the potential for future trade agreements, asserting, "I think people are seeing the investment coming back. You look at the jobs numbers todayit surpassed expectations for the second time." He also highlighted the growth in the private sector, despite government job cuts.

The conversation then shifted to the 2028 election, with liberal pundit Kara Swisher suggesting Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer as a potential presidential candidate. Maher quickly dismissed this idea, citing instances where Trump had outmaneuvered Whitmer. He recounted, "Trump f*cking punked her twice. Called her up. He was in Michigan. It was something that governors need the presidents help on certain things, and he calls her up, which she didnt expect."

The discussion took another turn when McCarthy and Swisher suggested Bernie Sanders and AOC as the Democrats' frontrunners for the 2028 election. Maher reacted with disbelief, questioning the significance of their large crowds. McCarthy, however, argued that crowd size was a crucial factor as it influenced fundraising, stating, "AOC is raising massive amounts of moneyand its coming from small donors. This is exactly where Trump was when no one gave him a chance in 15."

McCarthy acknowledged that Sanders and AOC were currently leading the Democratic race, but he anticipated their eventual decline, leaving room for another candidate to emerge. He concluded with a critique of the Democratic Party's lack of leadership and overreliance on anti-Trump sentiment, warning, "And if their only policy position continues being 'Trump stinks,' theyll end up stuck with Bernie and AOC. And no serious independent voter wants to see that."
