David Hogg's stint as vice chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) may be shorter than anticipated.
Despite only occupying the role for a few months, Hogg has stirred significant controversy within the party.
His primary offense appears to be his intention to challenge various party members whom he perceives as insufficiently progressive. This stance has not been well-received, prompting party members to issue an ultimatum: conform or depart. Now, Hogg himself may face a challenge to his position.
According to Gateway Pundit, Hogg's challenger is Kalyn Free, a Native American attorney and party activist. Free's challenge represents the first significant threat to Hogg's leadership since he committed to supporting primary challenges against incumbents.
The DNC's credentials committee is scheduled to convene virtually on May 12 to deliberate on Free's challenge. Free, who previously lost a vice chair position to Hogg during the DNC's February 1 meeting, contends that the election was "fatally flawed" and discriminatory against three women of color candidates. She is advocating for "two new vice chair elections."
In her complaint, shared with Semafor by a Democratic source, Free argued, "By aggregating votes across ballots and failing to distinguish between gender categories in a meaningful way, the DNCs process violated its own Charter and Bylaws, undermining both fairness and gender diversity." Free, a citizen of the Choctaw Nation, is seeking to address what she perceives as a breach of the DNC's foundational principles.
