Democrats have seemingly chosen a contentious stance, staunchly defending even the most violent and human-trafficking Central American gang members from being apprehended by ICE, regardless of the consequences.
As reported by WND, documents unveiled by conservative radio host Dan ODonnell reveal a memo from the Department of Administration (DOA) dated April 18. This memo outlines specific instructions for Wisconsin state employees to follow when confronted with ICE agents at government facilities.
Rather than collaborating with federal immigration authorities, the directive advises employees to refuse to answer inquiries, deny access to records, and even insist that agents leave if legal counsel is unavailable. The memo controversially instructs state workers to regard federal agents as unwelcome intruders instead of respected law enforcement allies.
The guidance provided to state employees essentially orders them to shield illegal aliens, even those who are dangerous criminals sought by federal authorities. Deputy Secretary Hanson, in an email to staff, acknowledged that this policy was developed in response to mounting concerns among Wisconsins liberal bureaucrats. These officials, instead of enforcing the law, are apprehensive about inadvertently assisting ICE.
Hanson stated, "We have received questions from state employees regarding what to do in case of an encounter with federal agents at work. Similar to other public entities that have issued guidance, we are providing the enclosed information. If you should encounter U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or other federal agents at work, please refer to the enclosed guidance. While we hope it wont be necessary to put this guidance into practice, please do your part to be prepared and have contact information for your agency Office of Legal Counsel readily available."
This directive represents not governance, but defiance. The Governor's order challenges the authority of federal immigration law and disrespects every law-abiding citizen. By instructing state employees to obstruct ICE, Wisconsin's leadership is effectively aiding and abetting illegal immigration.
Governor Evers should consider the repercussions of hindering ICE operationsjust look at the case of Judge Hannah Dugan. Dugan is now facing federal charges for "obstructing or impeding a proceeding before a department or agency of the United States" under Title 18, U.S. Code, Section 1505, and for "concealing an individual to prevent his discovery and arrest" under Title 18, U.S. Code, Section 1071. Her offense? Assisting a violent illegal alien from Mexico in evading arrest by federal authorities.
