Instead of being criticized, Musk should be lauded for his relentless pursuit of innovation and progress.
According to RedState, Musk's groundbreaking work with Neuralink, a neurotechnology company, has also been a topic of discussion this week. Neuralink has made significant strides in its research, particularly with its first implant patient, Noland Arbaugh. Despite being paralyzed below the shoulders, Arbaugh can now play video games using only his mind, thanks to the Neuralink implant.
The impact of Neuralink extends beyond Arbaugh. Brad Smith, an ALS patient who is unable to move his arms or legs and is non-verbal due to his condition, has also benefited from a Neuralink brain implant. Smith, a husband and father, can now communicate on X, making him one of the three people who have received such an implant.
The implant uses Smith's old voice, which was replicated from previous recordings using artificial intelligence. Smith types with his brain, enabling him to communicate. He created a video using the Brain Computer Interface (BCI) to control the mouse on his computer, demonstrating the remarkable potential of this technology.
Smith shared his experience with ALS and the Neuralink implant, stating, "I have ALS, a really weird disease that kills the motor neurons that control my muscles, but not affecting my mind." He described his journey from a shoulder injury to his current state of total reliance on a ventilator for survival.
Before Neuralink, Smith used eye gaze control for communication, which was most effective in dark rooms. However, this method was not practical for outdoor use. The Neuralink implant, which is the size of five quarters and embedded in his motor cortex, communicates with the computer via Bluetooth, eliminating this issue.
