In a startling display of rhetoric, Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of President John F. Kennedy, took to social media to launch a scathing attack on Vice President J.D. Vance.
Schlossberg accused Vance of "killing the pope" shortly after the Vatican announced the passing of Pope Francis. The pontiff's death marked the end of his 12-year leadership of the Roman Catholic Church.
As reported by Gateway Pundit, the accusation followed a private meeting between Vance, a Catholic convert since 2019, and Pope Francis at Casa Santa Marta on Easter Sunday. The brief encounter, lasting approximately 15 to 17 minutes, involved an exchange of Easter greetings. During this meeting, the Pope presented Vance with chocolate Easter eggs for his children, a Vatican tie, and rosaries.
Vance, in turn, acknowledged the Pope's fragile health while expressing gratitude for the audience. This meeting came after an earlier encounter on April 19, where Vance met with Vatican officials instead of the Pope, a move some interpreted as a snub due to their differing views, particularly on immigration.
In a move that many viewed as an attempt to score political points, Schlossberg posted a provocative message on social media, stating, "Okay JD killed the pope."
He further escalated his rhetoric on Instagram, sharing a photo with the caption: "WHAT DID JD DO? VP OF LITTLE FAITH meets with Pope YESTERDAY, today Pope dies. Pope Francis is an incredible, towering figure who transformed the Catholic Church to be more DIVERSE EQUITABLE AND INCLUSIVE. his parting gift to us was the fact that he did not like JD VANCE, VP of little Faith, at all."
The internet quickly became a battleground, with hashtags such as #JDVanceKilledThePope and #Antichrist circulating among radical left-wing users. These coordinated attacks aimed to undermine one of the few vocal Christian figures remaining in the White House. The incident underscores the lengths to which some on the left, including Schlossberg, are willing to go in their political discourse.
