Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) has called for President Donald Trump's administration to refrain from publicizing the alleged criminal activities of deported Salvadoran illegal immigrant Kilmar Abrega Garcia.
During an appearance on ABC's "This Week" on April 20, Van Hollen advised, "Dont put everything out on social media." He emphasized that the matter should be resolved by the judiciary, stating, "The Trump administration is trying to change the [Democrats narrative]. Theyre trying to distract attention. Heres where they should put their facts: they should put it before the court. They should put up or shut up in court [under] Judge Xinis, whos the district court judge in this case."
As reported by Breitbart, Judge Xinis, appointed by President Barack Obama in 2015, holds jurisdiction over legal rights disputes in courtrooms but does not preside over public discourse on the consequences of illegal immigration. Van Hollen expressed his discontent to CNN, asserting, "They are trying to litigate on social media what they should be doing in the courts."
Van Hollen's stance aligns with the political interests of Democrats, as numerous polls indicate that a significant portion of the American populace supports the swift deportation of criminal migrants. Abrego Garcia, who was ordered deported in 2019, is accused by Trump's deputies of engaging in violent acts against his wife, participating in MS-13 gang activities in Maryland, and facilitating the illegal entry of migrants into the United States, thereby impacting the job and housing markets for Van Hollen's constituents.
When questioned by CNN about Abrego Garcia's alleged gang affiliation, Van Hollen demurred, stating, "Im not going to get into the details. I didnt ask him that." This reluctance contrasts with the broader Democratic effort to decelerate the deportation process for millions of illegal migrants, a demographic that diverts resources from average Americans to the benefit of Van Hollen's political allies.
Despite Van Hollen's objections, President Trump's administration maintains that it is adhering to legal protocols as it proceeds with the deportation of millions of illegal migrants. This approach underscores the administration's commitment to upholding the rule of law and prioritizing the interests of American citizens in the face of ongoing immigration challenges.
