In a troubling development from Butler, Pennsylvania, a local resident faces serious charges for allegedly making online threats against President Donald Trump and other officials.
The Department of Justice has announced the arrest of 32-year-old Shawn Monper, who was apprehended by the FBI with the assistance of the Butler Township Police Department. Monper is currently in custody, with a hearing scheduled for April 14.
As reported by The Post Millennial, the FBI's National Threat Operations Section received an urgent alert on April 8 regarding threats made by a YouTube user known as "Mr Satan." The threats were traced back to Monper, with the statements spanning from January 15, shortly before President Trump resumed office, to April 5. Investigators linked the online activity to Monper's residence, further solidifying the case against him.
The investigation uncovered that Monper had secured a firearms permit shortly after President Trump's inauguration. In February, using the "Mr Satan" account, he allegedly declared, "I have bought several guns and been stocking up on ammo since Trump got in office." By March, his rhetoric escalated with comments like, "Eventually im going to do a mass shooting," and later, "I have been buying 1 gun a month since the election, body armor, and ammo." The complaint also highlights a February 17 post advocating violence against President Trump and others, stating, "Nah, we just need to start killing people, Trump, Elon, all the heads of agencies Trump appointed, and anyone who stands in the way." Monper's alarming statements continued with a March 4 threat, "im going to assassinate him myself," made during a YouTube broadcast of "Live: Trumps address to Congress."
Further inflammatory remarks attributed to Monper include a March 18 post labeling ICE agents as "terrorist people" and advocating for violence against them. On April 1, he allegedly wrote, "If I see an armed ice agent, I will consider it a domestic terrorist, and an active shooter and open fire on them."
This case underscores the persistent threats faced by public officials and the critical role of law enforcement in preemptively addressing potential acts of violence. As the legal proceedings unfold, the situation remains fluid, with updates anticipated as more information becomes available.
