According to the New York Post, Ocasio-Cortez was photographed enjoying the comforts of a first-class cabin on JetBlue Flight 511, departing from JFK Airport to Las Vegas. Critics have seized upon this, suggesting it contradicts her advocacy for income equality and environmental responsibility.
The New York Post reported, "Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was photographed flying first-class to a Bernie Sanders event last month with critics saying it shows how she battles inequality one 'mimosa at a time.'"
The event in question, a rally titled "Fighting Oligarchy," took place in North Las Vegas and at Arizona State University in Tempe, where Ocasio-Cortez joined Sanders in addressing the crowd. An observer on the flight remarked, Nothing says, Power to the people like ignoring voters looking to say hello and reclining in first class while tweeting about income inequality, highlighting the perceived disconnect between her actions and her rhetoric.
