Rep. John James, a Republican from Michigan, has officially declared his candidacy for the governorship of Michigan, emphasizing the state's prolonged struggles and the need for robust leadership.

In a statement shared on X, James articulated that his decision was made after "deep reflection, prayer, and conversations" with his family. He criticized the current state of affairs, asserting that Michigan has been "dominated by radical, out-of-touch policies" and lamented the loss of "over 300,000 manufacturing jobs since NAFTA."

James, who has been serving Michigan's 10th Congressional District since his victory in the November 2022 election, expressed his commitment to revitalizing the state. "Im running for Governor of the great state of Michigan," he declared. "This decision comes after deep reflection, prayer, and conversations with my wife and children. Well have the rallies and the balloons soonbut first, I want to share exactly why Im doing this." According to Breitbart, James underscored the strength of Michigan's people but noted they are "being held back by a lack of strong, competent leadershipleadership with real-world experience in the areas Michiganders need most."

James's statement further criticized the policies of the past seven years, which he believes have adversely affected Michigan's communities. "Weve lost over 300,000 manufacturing jobs since NAFTAnearly a third of our industrial base," he stated, calling this situation "unacceptable." Drawing on his experience as a business leader and a combat veteran, James assured voters of his commitment to not leaving people behind. "Its time to get Michigans government out of fantasyland and back to common sense," he asserted. He also highlighted his longstanding alliance with President Donald Trump, stating, "President Trump and I have been in each others corner through thick and thin for eight yearsno reason that will end now. Hes doing his part to Make America Great Again, and Ill do mine to bring prosperity and sanity back to Michigan."

James's entry into the gubernatorial race sets the stage for a competitive contest, with Michigan State Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt, also a Republican, emerging as a significant contender.

As reported by NBC News, both candidates are vying to succeed Governor Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, who is term-limited and will not be seeking re-election in 2026. James's previous electoral success, where he narrowly defeated Democrat Carl Marlinga, underscores his potential as a formidable candidate in the upcoming race.
