A dramatic incident unfolded at the Kansas State Capitol on Friday morning, resulting in the arrest of a prominent Satanist leader during a controversial "Black Mass" event.

Michael Stewart, the founder of the Satanic Grotto, found himself in handcuffs after a physical confrontation erupted at the Kansas Statehouse in Topeka, as reported by WIBW News.

The Satanic Grotto, an organization dedicated to Satanists and their allies who adhere to the Left-Hand Path, was at the center of this tumultuous event. According to Breitbart, Stewart's actions in the rotunda sparked the altercation.

He raised his arms in a dedication to Satan, prompting a woman to confront him, insisting he was not permitted to do so. A man, holding a medallion and praying, also approached Stewart. The situation escalated when a third individual joined the fray, leading to a shoving match with Stewart.

A post on X from CatholicVote captured the chaotic scene, showing Stewart with his arms raised as another person attempted to seize something from his hand. The footage depicted Stewart retaliating with a punch, leading to a physical brawl before law enforcement intervened and subdued Stewart.

Authorities had previously informed Stewart that while he was welcome inside the Capitol, demonstrations were prohibited. Despite this warning, Stewart proceeded with his actions, drawing a crowd of approximately 20 supporters of the Black Mass, while a significantly larger group of 300 to 400 individuals protested the event, according to the outlet.

KSNT News provided further details on the aftermath, reporting that Stewart was arrested on charges of unlawful assembly and disorderly conduct. The Shawnee County Department of Corrections confirmed these charges. Additionally, a 21-year-old man involved in the altercation with Stewart, along with several others present at the Statehouse, faced arrest.

Before the confrontation, Stewart articulated the purpose of the Black Mass, stating it was intended to assert the group's presence in the public sphere and to express their emotions and grievances. This event underscores the ongoing tensions surrounding such gatherings and the broader societal debates they ignite.
