President Trump has launched a pointed critique against actor George Clooney following the latter's appearance on "60 Minutes."
Utilizing his Truth Social platform, the President expressed his disapproval of what he termed a "puff piece" interview featuring Clooney.
According to Page Six, Trump, at 78, did not hold back in his assessment of the 63-year-old actor, labeling him a "second rate movie star" and a "failed political pundit."
The President's dissatisfaction stemmed from Clooney's discussion of the Trump administration's legal battles with media networks. Trump accused Clooney of initially supporting President Biden's election campaign, only to abandon him post-debate.
He further alleged that Clooney, possibly under influence from the Obama camp, shifted his support to Kamala Harris, a move Trump deemed unsuccessful. Trump reiterated his accusation that CBS had "fraudulently inserted Fake answers" into Harris' interview before the previous year's Election Day, describing the act as "embarrassing and dishonest."
Clooney, who has yet to respond to Trump's remarks, had mentioned the President by name during the interview while discussing ABC News' settled lawsuit with Trump's administration.
"CBS News is in the process [of doing the same]," Clooney stated, adding, "Were seeing this idea of using government to scare or fine or use corporations to make journalists smaller."
He emphasized the historical tension between governments and press freedom, noting, "Governments dont like the freedom of the press. They never have. And that goes for whether you are a conservative or a liberal or whatever side youre on. They dont like the press."
In the same interview, Clooney defended his previous call for Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, a stance he took shortly after co-hosting a fundraiser for Biden's re-election. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris was named the Democratic presidential nominee in August 2024, with Clooney endorsing her candidacy.
