Joy Reid, recently liberated from her role at MSNBC, has taken to making audacious forecasts about geopolitical developments.
In a recent discussion, she addressed President Trump's comments regarding Canada, which he has humorously dubbed the "51st state," suggesting it should become part of the United States. Notably, President Trump has never advocated for annexing Canada through military means.
In an interview with former CNN anchor Don Lemon, Reid speculated that for Canada to join the United States as the 51st state, a declaration of war would be necessary. She remarked, "First of all, you cant make Canada the 51st state without going to war with them."
Reid further elaborated on historical events, stating, "They burned the White House to the ground in 1814 and won the war! Canada beat us in the War of 1812. They probably like their chances against us." According to Gateway Pundit, Reid's comments overlooked the significant military disparity between the two nations.
The United States boasts a defense budget exceeding $800 billion, dwarfing Canada's $30 billion, and maintains a formidable force of 1.3 million active troops compared to Canada's 70,000. The U.S. military arsenal includes thousands of advanced jets, warships, and tanks, along with the world's largest nuclear stockpile, making any potential conflict heavily skewed in America's favor.
Reid's predictions also drew parallels to historical military campaigns, suggesting that occupying Canada would be as challenging as past attempts by other nations to conquer vast, inhospitable territories. She noted, "Youd have to occupy a country that is equivalent of the size of the United States, in which the top two-thirds of it is uninhabited, frozen forest land that touches the Arctic." Despite her colorful commentary, Reid's analysis did not account for the overwhelming military advantage held by the United States.
Meanwhile, Reid's departure from MSNBC was part of a broader cost-cutting initiative by the network, prompted by declining ratings and advertising revenue. Reports indicate that Reid is "furious" over her dismissal and is contemplating retribution against the network. A source within MSNBC revealed, "Shes livid, and she knows everything. Shes ready to burn the house down." Reid's future endeavors remain uncertain, but her recent statements suggest she is not shying away from controversy.
