During a recent segment on Fox News Channel's "Americas Newsroom," Representative Tom Suozzi (D-NY) articulated his reasons for opposing the continuing resolution.
He expressed concerns about empowering what he referred to as "DOGE" and suggested that Republicans might be anticipating a government shutdown to facilitate DOGE's objectives.
According to Breitbart, Suozzi emphasized the necessity of negotiation, stating, "But the bottom line is, if you want to get a deal done, you have to negotiate. And theres been no negotiation whatsoever. This has been a my way or the highway deal since the very beginning." He criticized the Republicans for their satisfaction with DOGE's actions, which he described as "irresponsible," and advocated for bipartisan discussions to establish common ground.
Co-host Dana Perino highlighted the potential consequences of a government shutdown, noting, "If you shut down the governmenteven more government workers get furloughed and it might make DOGEs job easier to cut people." Suozzi concurred, attributing the lack of negotiation to Republican strategy.
He remarked, "Well, then, thats what the Republicans are probably hoping for. Thats why they didnt negotiate with the Democrats in the first place." He underscored the Republican Party's control over the presidency, Senate, and House, asserting that the responsibility lies with them. Suozzi concluded by stressing the importance of collaboration, stating, "Thats basic politics 101, you have to try and work together."
