In the wake of President Donald Trump's return to office, the Democratic party's resilience appears to be waning.
Their decade-long opposition to Trump has escalated in recent weeks, but it seems that some members are struggling to keep up with the pace.
According to RedState, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow was contracted to appear five days a week for the first 100 days of Trump's term, a significant increase from her previous once-a-week commitment. However, her colleague Lawrence O'Donnell has confessed to feeling "exhausted" and unable to maintain the same level of commitment.
"I know you've pledged to cover and be here for the first hundred days of the Trump presidency," O'Donnell said to Maddow. "I hope you noticed that I did not make that same pledge when you did." He continued, "This is day 52. I thought it was day 92. It turns out it's day 52, Rachel, and Im exhausted at day 52. So Im going to take next week off. And Im telling you that now cause I know you dont like it when I just drift away. Im just taking next week off, then I can come back, and go with you all the way to the 100 days."
Maddow responded with a light-hearted plea, "Can I go with you?" reminding him of her 100-day commitment and his plan to start his week off early on Friday.
O'Donnell didn't miss the opportunity to take a final jab at President Trump. "And so America is at this hour completing the 52nd day of having a President of the United States whose brain does not work. Donald Trumps brain is broken, badly damaged, as he exhibits every day. And once again, today, Donald Trump said something that would have gotten any other president rushed to the hospital for a neurological examination and an evaluation for dementia, for starters. Thats where they would have begun," he said, referring to Trump's comments about Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.
This attack, however, seems to lack credibility. Trump's comments about Schumer were not indicative of dementia but were a critique of Schumer's stance on the war in Gaza. O'Donnell, who has previously praised Biden without acknowledging his cognitive issues, appears to be applying a double standard.
While O'Donnell takes a break after 52 days, Trump, who he labels as 'demented,' has been actively accomplishing tasks since his return to office, despite constant attacks from the Democrats. This comparison suggests that Trump's resilience far exceeds that of O'Donnell.
MSNBC's declining ratings may not be surprising given these circumstances. The network's hosts appear to be struggling to keep up with the pace of Trump's presidency, and their credibility is being questioned due to their inconsistent application of standards. As the first 100 days of Trump's term continue, it remains to be seen how MSNBC and the Democratic party will adapt to the challenges they face.
