Jon Stewart has responded to Elon Musk's critique of him being "too partisan" by extending an invitation for an interview, provided Musk agrees to appear on "The Daily Show."
The 62-year-old comedian recently made waves after injuring his hand during a segment on the Comedy Central program, where he criticized Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for its extensive cuts to the federal workforce. Stewart remarked, "We are DOGEing in the wrong place if we really want to change the system," highlighting his disapproval of the agency's actions.
As reported by The Hill, Musk initially expressed interest in appearing on "The Daily Show," stating on his social platform X, "I will do it if the show airs unedited." However, the Tesla CEO later accused Stewart of being more of a "propagandist" than he appeared.
Addressing his audience, Stewart recounted, "Musk tweeted, or Xd, I guess, that he would like to come on here and talk to me as long as the show airs unedited." Stewart noted that in-studio interviews typically air unedited and welcomed the opportunity, saying, "So, sure, wed be delighted."
Stewart humorously suggested that the interview's duration could vary, quipping, "The interview could be 15 minutes, it could be an hour, it could be two hours." He added, "Ill be honest, I dont think this network makes any other programming. So we can do whatever the f??? we want as long as we wrap before the new season of South Park, which comes out in like May or June of 2026."
The comedian also addressed Musk's "propagandist" remark, pointing out the irony of Musk's political affiliations. "The guy who custom-made his own Dark MAGA hat that he wears to opine in the Oval Office with the President, who he spent $270 million to elect, thinks Im just too partisan," Stewart said. He questioned Musk's understanding of bipartisanship, stating, "Im really not sure what he thinks bipartisan means, but its generally not, I support Donald Trump and also Germanys AFD Party. Thats not bipartisan. Thats just the same s???."
Despite his criticisms of DOGE, Stewart expressed openness to discussing the topic with Musk, saying, "I support, in general, the idea of efficiency and delivering better services to the American public in cheaper and more efficient ways. And if you want to come on and talk about it on the show, great. If you dont want to, sure."
He challenged Musk's pretense of neutrality, exclaiming, "But can we just drop the pretense that you wont do it because I dont measure up to the standards of neutral discourse that you demand and display at all times?" Stewart concluded with a candid remark, "Because, quite frankly, thats bulls???. You know it, I know it. Bulls???."
