In a recent interview, Sean Curran, the U.
S. Secret Service agent who played a pivotal role in safeguarding former President Donald Trump during an attempted assassination in Butler, Pennsylvania, last year, shared his reflections on the harrowing incident and his unwavering commitment to the President.
Speaking with CBS News, Curran recounted the intense dedication he felt towards ensuring Trump's safety, a sentiment that has not waned since that fateful day in July.
"Part of me probably still hasnt processed it. I havent from that day to now I havent stopped," Curran revealed to CBS. His sense of duty was so profound that he felt compelled to remain constantly by Trump's side. "I felt like I couldnt let him out of my sight. Not to the point where Id be overworked, but to a point where I felt like I needed to be with him to ensure that things were done the way I needed them to be done. I didnt want to leave his side. I think he probably didnt want me to leave his side, either," he explained.
According to Western Journal, Curran's dedication did not go unnoticed, as Trump later appointed him as the director of the Secret Service. Curran's presence was notably captured in a striking photograph where Trump, with blood streaming across his face, is seen raising his fist in the air, while Curran stands solemnly by his side, the American flag waving in the background. This image has become emblematic of the bond between the two men.
Over the past seven years, Curran has been a constant figure in Trump's security detail, including during a second assassination attempt on September 15 and throughout Trump's numerous court trials in 2024.
The Secret Service, under Curran's leadership, even prepared for the eventuality of Trump facing conviction and imprisonment. "We had serious conversations about it, and I at one point told him, he and I might be getting a lot closer," Curran stated. His commitment to Trump was unwavering: "Look, if it came to it, Id be sitting right next to him. Thats how much I care for him. Thats how much I felt that he deserved the level of protection that any of our protectees should get. Theres nothing I would have not done for him."
Curran's career with the Secret Service began in September 2001, and he was later assigned to former President Barack Obama's protection detail. During Trump's first term, Curran was promoted to deputy supervisor of Trump's security team.
Reflecting on his relationship with Trump, Curran noted, "He has always shown respect to not only me, but the division that protected him." He added, "We have a bond, probably for life."
Curran's story is a testament to the dedication and loyalty that define the Secret Service's mission to protect the nation's leaders. His unwavering commitment to Trump underscores the deep bonds that can form between protectors and those they are sworn to defend, highlighting the personal sacrifices made in the name of duty and service.
